The Art Institute of California - Orange County is seeking a Career Services Advisor. A background in the Interior Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or Culinary Industries is a plus. The Career Advisor is responsible for employer relations, event planning, career counseling, and graduate success. This position pays $38,000 to $42,000 base plus $12,000 bonus potential.


Position Summary:

Meet the placement goals of graduates assigned. Develop employment opportunities for graduates via industry networking, involvement in professional organizations, development of industry partnerships for the department and school, direct mail campaigns and direct referral to employer base. Maintain detailed employment information on graduates.


Key Job Elements:

1. 2. Meet individual placement and average salary targets as indicated in quarterly plans within six months of graduation.

3. Meet overall department placement and average salary targets on annual basis.

4. Develop, track, report and document graduate employment program, graduate profiles, success stories, and employment progress.

5. Plans and conducts employer visits and on-campus recruiting meeting targets according to individual quarterly plan. Educates employers on curriculum and competitive compensation. Plans and conducts marketing calls and direct mail marketing follow-up. Takes into consideration candidate skills, geographic location and optimum opportunity for candidate earnings.

6. Actively coaches graduates and students on career search strategies, personal marketing, interview skills, self-promotion methods and materials. Serves as advocate for students/graduates in the job search process, including salary negotiation. 7. Actively and routinely seeks employer feedback and researches industry trends. Shares this information when appropriate within the school to aid in the development/enhancement of curriculum and successful outcomes for graduates. Advisor is an active member of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) for the program(s) advised.

8. Works closely with the Professional Development Instructors and Career Services Director to contribute to course content and the successful outcome of this course for pending graduates' job search readiness. Plans, schedules, and conducts presentations to students preparing for graduation. Conducts special events and workshops to current students on employment outlook, graduate successes, job opportunities, and other relevant information.

9. Schedules, conducts, and documents an exit interview with each pending graduate assigned, including approval of resume for graduation and portfolio presentation as appropriate. Advisor builds relationship with graduates that fosters trust, respect and partnership in the job search process.

10. Advisor begins referring students to job leads and networking opportunities as soon as possible and contacts graduates seeking employment a minimum of two times per month during six month reporting period.

11. Develops partnership with Student Employment Advisor to maximize field-related opportunities for students.

12. Develops partnership with Alumni to maximize opportunities for graduates and industry networking.


Position Requirements:

· Bachelor in business, marketing, commercial art, or related field.

· Equivalent experience could be considered as substitute for education requirements.

· Two years experience in placement/search firm, career counseling or industry-related position, and at least one year experience in a marketing or field-related environment

· Excellent communication skills, including sales/persuasive abilities and the ability to build successful relationships with industry and graduates.

· Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.

· Must be goal and team oriented and conduct business with attention to ethical considerations, employment law and The Art Institute of California - Orange County accreditation guidelines.
